Club Mission
To advance the hobby and sport of radio-controlled silent flight by providing an environment that promotes safety, learning and mutual respect. We strive to create goodwill and rapport between members that share these common interests.
Club History
Our club has been in existence for over 30 years from when a group of like minded fliers first formed the club known as the Calgary Glider Group in the mid 1970's. Over the years the number of members, the level of activity (both competitive and non-competitive) and the different ways of experiencing silent flight has varied but there has always been a core group of members that have worked hard to maintain the club.
The clubs name changed to the Calgary RC Soaring Society in 1992 and has been listed by MAAC as such ever since then.
Flying fields have changed over time. Roper Hull field in the 80's. Then the High River Sod Farm for several years under a shared agreement with the Chinook Winds RC club. Subsequent to that in the late 90's, the club moved to a beautiful field on the NW shore of Lloyd Lake. The last large soaring contest was held there in 2007 but following that the ever increasing waters of the lake made flying there untenable.
But luckily, with the efforts of some of our members, we were able to acquire our current field at the South Calgary Airport. We have a grassed field there and a SeaCan away from the flying area where we keep our garden tractors for field maintenance and where we can secure our winches, batteries and other equipment needed to support our flying activities.

Dues for new members are currently $200 for the initial year and $100 annually thereafter. These funds are used to maintain our field and keep our club equipment in good repair. We also pay an annual fee to the land owner for the use of the property. Your dues will give you access to a superb soaring site for the entire year.
